Movies, gardening, water park, and friends

On Friday night Tyler and I decided to stay in and watch "A league of their own" we had it recorded on our DVR and Tyler really wanted me to watch it for some reason. So we finally did. He loved it. I wasn't crazy about it, but it was okay. I didn't feel like it was a waste of my time, I just didn't enjoy the story line because I know nothing about baseball or any sports for that matter. I'm definitely a girly girl.
I made us some homemade chicken pot pie and we just snuggled up and watched the movie. It was fun to see how excited Tyler would get about certain lines.





On Saturday we had a super busy day! Tyler woke up early for basketball and I was home asleep until the door bell rang. Tyler's old car, his Saturn, died in May. It's been sitting in front of our house since then and I've been nagging Tyler to either sell it or donate. He finally set up for it to be picked up and donated on Saturday. I knew he did it but that was about it. Well at 9:20am they ring our doorbell and Tyler is still gone and they need things that I have no idea where they are!! I called and called and called Tyler and nothing. They needed the title to be signed by him and the keys to the car. Well I couldn't and wouldn't forge his signature and the keys were in the car. He finally got home around 10am and they took the car! Then shortly after DirectTV came. We switched from Dish network because they don't have the channel for Tyler to watch the BYU football games. They had a promotion going on so we switched. Tyler is sooo excited to watch the games this fall. I'll be out to the movies or at Barnes and Noble doing some homework. While they were installing stuff and really the rest of the day we worked on the yard... mostly Tyler but I helped until I got dizzy and came inside. Tyler and I weeded out flower beds, and he trimmed the bushes that all needed to be done really bad! The doggies loved being outside with us playing in the dirt. When I came in they came with me and their paws were all dirty. Later on the day Tyler mowed the lawn and our yard looks so nice, all we need is from our grass to get green. :) It's just been too hot and it kind of died because we don't have a sprinkle system. OOps.






Then in the evening Tyler had a Priest and Laurel Multi-stake activity he needed to be at and I went with him. It was at a water park in Denton, about one hour northwest from us. He was the only leader to get in the water and I joined him in support. It was fun, but we were pretty tired by the time we got home around midnight. The activity was from 7pm to 10:30pm. We had fun. But Tyler missed his early morning meetings the next day. lol





On Monday was my last day before school started so I decided to have some fun. After I woke up I had all these plans to clean and get the house ready but instead I called Vernice and asked her if she wanted to go out to lunch and a movie with me. We went to the mall and ate at yummy San Francisco Oven and then we watched "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2". We did some small window shopping and then went to the library. We had fun and it was good to get to know her a little better. She's very sweet and even though we're very different we get along pretty good.

In the evening we went to Johnny Carino's for family night with Carly and Kevin. It was sooo yummy. On mondays they have their family platters for half off and it feeds all of us. It's a great deal and it's always fun to be with Carly and Kevin.

Tyler has been working some long hours and I started school this week again. I have hospital orientation tomorrow and on Fridays I have clinicals, this first week I will be in the NICU which I'm super excited about because I think that's what I want to do, we rotate through maternity floors for 5 weeks, then we do Pedis for 5 weeks, and Psych for another 5. It's going to be a busy semester, and after this semester I'll have one left! I'll start applying for jobs and internships in February! Life is just crazy and busy, but great!

Concerts!

We've got tickets to two amazing concerts. The first one is October 11 for Michael Buble's Call me irresponsible tour at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

We will be on Section 106, Row S, seats 3 and 4.

Then on November 12 we have tickets for Sarah Brightman's Symphony tour at the American Airlines Center We've been to her previous tour "Harem" and her concerts are amazing.

We will be on Section 14, Row D, Seats 5 and 6.

The Sarah Brightman tickets were for our wedding anniversary gift. Michael Buble was in Dallas at the American Airlines Center back in March, but the concert was on a Sunday and Tyler refused to go, no matter how much I pouted and begged. Lucky for me they've added final dates to the tour and Fort Worth was included and this time it's on a Saturday! YAY! I can't wait for both concerts and I'm so grateful for my wonderful husband being willing to buy tickets and go to

these concerts with me. He loves them too, but not nearly as much as I do.

Prince Caspian

It was raining in Texas Monday through Wednesday. Today was the first no rain day of the week and we were back up in the 90's. While it was in the high 70's, low 80's earlier in the week. I want the rain to come back!!! I love the cooler weather. Fall won't start here until October, but I'm ready for it now.

Since it was raining hard on Monday Tyler ended up staying home and working from here so he wouldn't have to deal with traffic and so he could be with his favorite wife. At night for FHE we decided to go to the dollar theater and watch Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. We went to the 8:30pm showing thinking since it was such a long movie that kids would not be there. Oh we were wrong! There was a father with 5 young children, and a single mom with a 3 year old that cried, screamed, and ran up and down the isles during a good part of the movie. Now tell me... what in the world is a 3 yr old doing at a movie that is rated PG and ends at 11:00pm!!! That 3yr old needed to be in bed before the movie even started! But I digress.

We both loved the first movie, but this one didn't quite make it. Yes it was beautiful. But Tyler has to fill in the gaps quite a bit since he's read the first 3 books. I was confused through most of it, and I couldn't stop giggling whenever Caspian would speak. It was a cross between Narnia and Zorro. He just had a bad accent and I kept waiting for him to break into "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die." I especially couldn't stop laughing towards the end of the movie, any time he'd speak I'd just laugh. When I came home I looked the books up and apparently they skipped one book which explains the gaps. The books go in the following order:

4. Prince Caspian

5. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

6. The Silver Chair

7. The Last Battle

So not only did Disney skip "The Horse and His Boy", they also skipped "The Magician's Nephew". I don't know their reasons for skipping. But I felt like the first movie "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" did a pretty good job at connecting the dots. The second one failed to impress on the connecting the dots part, and Mr. Zorro.. I mean Caspian. Tyler and I enjoyed it overall, but there were definitely things we were not impressed with. Hopefully the next movie will do a better job at adapting the books into the movies.

Rodeo

Last weekend Tyler and I went to the rodeo for the first time since we moved to Texas. We went with Carly and Kevin and only paid half price for our tickets. It was crazy. Nobody got hurt, but there were some scary moments. There were some slow moments, but overall it was fun. We probably won't be frequent rodeo goers but it was a fun experience. I did feel like the little animals were getting hurt so it wasn't my favorite activity. Tyler enjoyed it and would like to go back again, so we might when somebody comes to visit or if we can get another deal on tickets!

The polka dot dress

While visiting my parents in May, my mom and I went shopping and she bought me a gorgeous black and white polka dot silk dress from Banana Republic. I couldn't wait to wear it to church. However I was a nursery assistant. I was terrified to wear it around the kids because I often came home with chocolate on my clothes, or snot, bubbles, or even pee. Nursery assistant is not the most clothes happy calling. I knew I would be getting released mid Summer so I patiently waited for the day that I could wear my expensive silk polka dot dress. The day finally came today. I've been released for 2 weeks now and this was the first Sunday that I actually woke up early enough to get ready and put the dress to work. I did my make up, blew my hair dry (something that never, ever happens), and I even flat ironed my hair (something that happens even less often than the blow drying). I was looking cute! I even had my black high heeled sandals on (another item not to be worn in nursery). I leave to go to church and cannot wait to meet Tyler because he has never seen said dress. I'm running slightly late (5 minutes) so I walk in and sit down. I get up a little to smooth the dress underneath my bottom and I felt this weird thing on the side of my leg. I look down and found the following attached to my dress:


Yes dear friends. The SECURITY TAG was still attached to my polka dot dress that I patiently waited 3 months to wear. I was totally embarrassed. I couldn't get it off because these pesky things are a nightmare so I walked around all three hours of church with the tag on my dress. I'm planning on going to the banana republic here in Texas and hopefully they'll be willing to take the tag off of my dress and not think I'm a crazy woman and stole the dress from the store! But really... how in the world did the alarm not go off when we first bought it!?

sick

Tyler and I have a cold. He started it on Saturday evening and mine started today. Tyler even stayed home from work today. I alone went through a whole box of kleenex today alone. We don't have a fever or a cough. Just sneezy, stuffy, some sore throat, and lots of runny noses. It's going to be a blast tomorrow trying to be at clinicals taking care of patients while having snot dripping down my nose. Hopefully my professor won't send me home!

Randy's visit

This weekend we got the chance of having my father-in-law come visit for a few days. He was up in Wichita Falls for work and drove down to spend the weekend with us. We mostly hung out and watched TV, we got his favorite pizza at Peter Piper Pizza for lunch, and then we went to dinner at Cheddar's and we went to the dollar theater to watch "What Happens in Vegas". We really enjoyed the movie. It had some crude things in it, but not as much as I expected. I was actually impressed with how clean it ended up being. Today we went to church with him and spent some more time with him before he went back to Wichita Falls for work. I hope to have more things planned for when he comes next time. Maybe we can go to the zoo or a Rangers game.

Not much has been going on lately besides school and work. I just finished two weeks worth or clinicals and have two left before I am officially a semester 3 nursing student. Which means I'm halfway done! This semesters clinicals have been intense, I'm with the "mean" professor but while she has been tough, she has also been great. I'm finally starting to think like a nurse and not as a student. I'm opening up to my patients and really trying to figure out what they need. During the week I run on about 4 hrs of sleep a night and then crash on thursday night. I seriously sleep for 10-12 hrs from thursday night to friday morning. And the rest of the weekend is spent "recovering". Tyler has been wonderful. He has been making dinner on mondays, tuesdays, and thursdays and cleaning the dishes afterwards. He's been very supportive and has helped my stress level go down a bit because of it. He has Scouts on wednesday so it's usually a eat out, or not eat day. I think I've lost a good 8 lbs since clinicals started. I walk all day long for the whole 10 hrs I'm at the hospital. I've gotten to hang IV bags, discontinue IV's, give sub-q shots, saw the coolest/grossest wound changes and so many other things that it's been awesome.

Tyler has just been doing his normal stuff. Work, work, scouts, meetings, work, and work. He just had the chord of honor last week for them and they've been working hard on getting some of them to get done with a lot of requirements during the summer. The bishop is really pushing for all the boys to get their Eagles and Tyler would like that too. I have to say that he's a great YM president. I never hear him complain about his responsibilities with the boys, and he honestly cares about them and where they're heading. Next weekend he's going to be pulling an all nighter for work because it's the Go Live for the project he's been working on. I think he can't wait to be done with this project. It's been hard dealing with the company that hired them to do this project. They haven't been able to get their stuff done correctly. I think after this project is over he'll start some training to become an architect, at least that's what his boss has mentioned before. He says he has plans for Tyler to progress fast within the company which means training and lots of work. They're very happy with him and how good he is at programing. He is one of the few that is able to program and have no problems with his program. He's excited for his future with this company.
