Doggies day at the vet

Yesterday I took Oliver and April to the vet. Oliver was getting his teeth cleaned and April was getting spayed. I was anxious. Both doggies has to be under general anesthesia for it. I took them to our bishop who's a vet. I dropped them off early in the morning and picked Oliver up in the afternoon. April had to stay overnight. Oliver was fine. He got home and ate right away, he went outside and did his business like he's supposed to. He was a little more tired than usual but that was expected. It was weird having only one dog at home and I was worried about her being at the vet all night. I wasn't allowed to pick her up until today after 1pm. I got there at 2:30pm. My instructions were to keep her quiet for the next three days, no jumping and no running. I was also told to give her pain meds tonight and twice a day for the next 2 days. She was acting fine, a little anxious to come home, but fine. Her incision looked good. Right before we got home I opened the window so she could look out because she likes that... well.. while I was waiting for the garage door to open April jumped out the window!!!! She smacked her face on the cement and was acting all confused. I wanted to cry. I thought for sure her sutures would have busted open. I jumped out the car and picked her up, the car was still running, and brought her inside, let Oliver greet her and went back out to park the car in the garage. She seems to be fine, she drank water ate, and is now napping next to me. Oliver is napping on top of the couch behind me. Poor doggies. They've had a rough couple of days.

Texans and weather

You see I have a problem living in Texas -- if you haven't figured it out yet -- it's the weather. I hate Texas summers, and Fall takes too dang long to start and when it does it's not that cold. I was watching the 10pm news and the weatherman goes we will have a cold front come in by wednesday of next week that will cool us down to 85. Seriously weatherman. SERIOUSLY! That is so NOT a cold front! It's freaking October (almost) and our cold front is 85!!!! That bugs me. After going through a summer of 100+ degree weather for the better part of summer, when it gets to be early September I'm ready for Fall and real cold weather. Not 85! 85 is still summer weather, especially down here! I dream of the time where we'll live somewhere that when my Fall decorations are out because Fall started Sept 22. that it will actually feel like Fall outside! Seattle? Portland? Chicago? Vermont? Canada!?

Our first summer in Texas I told Tyler that there was no way I was going to stay here. I told him he had moved me to Hell. That's how hot it was. I know... winter is nice, Tyler can golf all year, but 5 -6 months of summer. No way. I prefer barely 3 months of summer. In fact I think I could do without summer all together. Alright I'm done whining. But cold... please come visit me.

Fall cleaning

I never got around to doing some spring cleaning due to school. Since this semester has been a little more mellow I was able to do some cleaning around the house. Last week I shampooed all of our carpets. I am so happy about this I'm not sure I can even explain how much. Since we got April we've had a few "accidents" while potty training so I was in a frenzy wanting the carpet cleaned. Every time people came over with their crawling babies I wanted to tell them to not let their children down because I felt like the carpets were beyond gross. Tyler assures me they were not that bad. But now we're good! Because they're clean! I also did some deep cleaning of the bathroom, washed our couch cushions, and pulled some clothes out of the closet for donation. All I'm really missing are the windows. I hate doing the windows! I don't think I'll be doing them anytime soon because it's finals week this week and then I start getting busy with the next few lectures.

The house has also been decorated for Fall for a good two weeks. I just love Fall. And I couldn't wait to get my decorations out. Now if it would only cool down so it would feel like Fall it'd be great!!

Bunko and Rangers

On Friday night Tyler and I were invited to a couples bunko night and chocolate tasting. We were about one hour late because I had clinicals that day but they knew we were about to be late. We were both really tired but we're glad we went. I had never played bunko before and I was horrible at it! I lost the first 8 games!!! I think in the end we played 18 games and I only won 4 of them. But I had yummy chocolate, strawberries, some biscuits. It was nice! We got home late and I had been up for 20 hours by the time we went to bed.

On Saturday Tyler woke up early to play basketball and I slept in until 11am. :-) Then we hung around, Tyler watched the BYU game and I cleaned a little and browsed online. In the evening we went to the last Fireworks Texas Rangers game! They were playing against the Angels. We had the very last seats on the very top!! It was terrible. But halfway through it we moved down and met up with some friends. The Rangers lost... which seems to happen everytime we go to their games. Seriously. But it was an exciting game! The head coach got into an argument with the referee and got kicked out of the stadium, a fan ran across the field and got arrested by security and of course the fireworks!

Ike weekend

We had a boring weekend. Due to Ike. We got lots of rain all day yesterday, but it wasn't nearly as bad as they were trying to make it. Tyler had to attend a youth dance that night and people were calling him all day asking if the dance was canceled. It was rain!!!! Just because it was coming from part of a hurricane didn't change matters. We were even on the weak side of things. Texans are weird about weather I swear. The dance wasn't canceled, nothing got blown over, no flooding, it was just heavy rain. So I was home all day cleaning, watching TV, sleeping, cleaning some more. Tyler plays basketball Sat mornings, then he had a YM volleyball game, then he came home and watched the BYU game, then Carly and Kevin came over for a quick dinner, and off he went to the dance.

Today we went to church. Took a four hour nap. Went to Carly and Kevin's house for dinner and now are just hanging out.

Tyler went to Houston on Monday for work and came home the same day. He's had a very busy week between work and the young men.

I have just been doing school. I have two weeks left of maternity health and then I do pediatrics. I've done NICU, Labor and Delivery, and High Risk Antepartum rotations. I've decided that there is no good way to have a baby. I watched three c-sections and one vaginal delivery. I think this may have added another five years to when we're gonna have kids. Geez! It was bad. On the other hand... I love NICU. I really think I want to be a NICU nurse. I am in love with babies and taking care of these sweet little spirits just fills my heart. We'll see at the end of the semester. I start applying for jobs in February!

Life is pretty slow right now. We're in a routine. So not much to talk about but school and work!

Big Boy!

On Sept 4 Oliver turned 5 years old. I got him as a puppy for Christmas almost 5 years ago. It doesn't seem like it's been that long that I've had him! We made him a cake to celebrate. April was all over it, but it took some time to talk Oliver into it. Both dogs wouldn't eat from the paper plates. I guess we trained them not to steal food off of plates a little too well.

Oliver is a sweet doggie. He's been a blessing to our family and we love him very much. He can dance, shake, lay down, roll over, and stay. He loves to cuddle, especially if a fleece blanket is involved. He's very obedient until he sees a kitty cat. He loves to go on walks and play with us and his little sister April. We're glad we have him in our family and hope to have him for at least another 10 years!

Labor Day - Dallas Zoo

On labor day Tyler and I decided to go to the Dallas zoo for the first time for some family time. We took the DART to the zoo so we could get a discount. It was a hot day, but we had fun. We were there for a good 6 hours and by the end we were pretty tired. We saw lots of animals and since it's a smaller zoo we took out time. The famous, really good zoo is the Fort Worth one which we have never been to before either. We'll try to go to that one later in the year when it's cooler since I felt pretty dizzy in the afternoon when it got really hot. We wanted to do the Dallas one so it didn't get ruined id we went to the Fort Worth one first. However we both decided that the Dallas one is good for small children because it's smaller and they have nice shaded areas where you can have a picnic with your family, they even allow you to bring food into the zoo. It was a nice day out for us and hopefully eventually we can go with our children.

White Christmas

We got tickets to go to Utah for Christmas. We will be getting there on Thursday Dec 18th and will stay until the 28th. We'll be renting a car so we'll be able to do lots of things and hopefully get to see many of you. Our schedule is pretty tight so let us know if you would like to get together with us while we're visiting. This is probably the last time we'll visit during Christmas for a while because once I graduate I'll be the novice nurse stuck working all holidays. :) So leave a comment, e-mail, or call us and we'll plan get togethers.
